Hi, I’m Rachel! I love to cook, take photos and share them with the world!

This blog is a space I started to share my recipes with you. Over the past couple of years I have been paying particular attention to my diet. After years of flipping back and forth with traditional and vegetarian diets, in December 2015 I decided to trial a plant based diet. It was a huge success and made me feel great! I now primarily follow a plant based diet with a few vegetarian meals thrown in from time to time.

I love experimenting and adapting recipes to suit my dietary needs, therefore the recipes you find on my blog and social media accounts are all tasty, easy and and plant based, full of bright colorful fruits and vegetables… with the occasional sweet treat thrown in to satisfy my sweet tooth.

About me

I grew up on the beautiful beaches of the Sunshine Coast and the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia. When I reached my late teens I had an itch to travel the world and experience living in a bigger city. So I did just that! I set off to travel the world for a couple of years, visiting Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East and North America, taking tons of travel photos along the way!

Upon returning I met my husband Andrew (who’s a scientist working on cancer therapies) and have since been focusing on our careers and travelling the world. We live a relatively minimalist lifestyle, which gives us the opportunity to move whenever there is a good work opportunity. Over the past 17 years we have lived in Brisbane, Melbourne, San Francisco and now we’re living in the ‘burbs of Boston. Hopefully our next stop will be somewhere in Europe!

My father is Dutch, so I have grown up eating tons of European food! Some of my favorites being rye bread, pastries and my Oma’s apple cake! Now that I primarily follow a plant based diet I am always looking for vegan versions of  childhood favorites! My mum taught me to cook and we rarely follow a recipe to the letter.

Life hasn’t all been adventure and great food… when I was 14 years old I was diagnosed with Lupus, an autoimmune disease, and was very sick for around three years (I’m currently in remission YAY!). Later on I was diagnosed with chronic depression, pre-diabetes, dislocating knees and MRSA. Haha yup it’s been annoying but I’m grateful that none of my illnesses have been life threatening.

Along this ride, I completed a Bachelors Degree in Business with majors in Management and Human Resources. I am currently pursuing my interests in food and photography by writing this blog and participating in a variety of related courses.
